Tradition and modern spirituality in Moyan's ink art

In the exploration of contemporary Chinese ink art, Moyan's creations exhibit a rare duality—deeply rooted in the nourishment of literati tradition while embodying the modern awakening of individual life.
Her Stone Rubbings series presents the artist's unique interpretation of ancient Buddhist sculptures. Moyan reconstructs the spatial and temporal dimensions of stone carvings through brush and ink, recreating their solemnity and compassion on a two-dimensional plane. Particularly precious is her preservation of the inscription tradition, creating an intertextual dialogue between painting and calligraphy that continues the Chinese aesthetic ideal of "the unity of poetry, calligraphy, and painting."
Meanwhile, her Flora Deities series transcends the limitations of traditional floral subjects, blending the mogu (boneless) technique with contemporary consciousness to transform each blossom into a spiritual vessel of emotion. Within those seemingly spontaneous ink washes lies the artist's profound contemplation of life's essence and her pursuit of beauty.
This exhibition not only showcases two pivotal series from Moyan's recent work but also reflects the path of contemplation traversed by contemporary ink artists between tradition and modernity. Those ink-washed memories from the foothills of Mount Qingcheng, those epiphanies gained through pilgrimages to ancient sites—all ultimately transform into spiritual dialogues on xuan paper.
